How did Karen and Margaret end up at this beautiful place? Perusing the map on the last night at Litchfield Park, Margaret popped the question to Karen, 'how do you feel about exploring the area from Darwin to Dundee beach after we deposit Pamela at the airport for her flight to The Bungle Bungle?' What a great decision. After a 1 1/2 hr drive on a good road, they came to a dead end at Dundee beach. Accommodation at the caravan park was super. Food at the pub delicious and reasonably priced and all the locals so friendly.
There are three localities at Dundee, Dundee Forest, Dundee Downs and Dundee Beach. The localities are named after the original subdivisions, believed to be in reference to the film 'Crocodile' Dundee. The permanent population is estimated at approximately 400 residents.

They needed a 'pit stop'. No better place but at a gate to a private property. |
The ropes in the distance mark the land owned by the council and the local pub. |
The pub, with accommodation on the side - not as 'posh' as ours in the park. |
Low tide at the beach |
The launching ramp which is busy, judging by the number of trailers in the park. |
As Margaret sat at the table talking to locals on the morning of her birthday , She learnt this BEAUTIFUL HUGE old tree is a 'beauty leaf' tree. A mother of four who schools her children, pulled out four small trees, saying 'take these home, they are hardy.' They are now in a pot where containment is necessary.

Their comfy air conditioned unit. A pity about cooking utensils, but who needed them when the friendly staff boiled a few eggs for their sandwich, plus the meals at the hotel were delicious. So were the 'coldies'. Also the company. |

An oasis amongst red dirt, |
Note the Accommodation huts beside the pub. Theirs was very upmarket. |
A lone bird on the only piece of green grass they had seen for the whole trip. |
Had a dip in the pool after lunch on the 25th August. A chap from the caravan park entered the pool in his brief budgie smugglers and delighted in telling and almost showing the girls his sandfly bites in the nether regions!!! He stated 'I guess you will be voting for same sex marriage." In the area, two women sharing accommodation are labeled, hence they were jokingly called the lezzos by a few friendly chaps at the pub where they had meals.

Couldn't resist a photo of this big 'desert rose' |
They were greeted by a charming girl at the booking office. |
The road into Dundee Beach. |
So tempting to swim. |
What a shame they couldn't swim there. |
A fishing boat ready to come in. |
Their cabin, second from the right was very comfortable. |
One of many local rocks that formed a 'fence' beside the red dirt road from the accommodation to the pub. A pity it wasn't well lit at night!! Thereby hangs a tale . |
They were too afraid of crocs to walk the beautiful beach. They had been warned by some |
How is that sea for colour? |
The only birds seen were these chaps who relied on tap drips for water. |
Beautiful Dundee Beach where local children played at the waters edge. Always on the lookout for a crock. |
Is that a crock cruising the shores off Dundee Beach? |
A calm launching spot in The Timour Sea at Dundee Beach |

BIRTHDAY BREAKFAST - TEA AND BOILED EGG ON TOAST. DELIVERED BY KAREN. |
WHAT IS A BLT I ASKED KAREN. I SOON FOUND OUT. DELICIOUS!! |
Four young chaps who stayed in the unit next to THEM, and Rob, a local who they met the first night, made Margaret's 77th birthday a memorable time. Rob was able to remove a HUGE fish hook from Paddy's foot in quick time by winding fishing line around the shank and pulling while pushing on the tip. Paddy was so grateful, and shouted drinks for everyone all night. Jokes and laughter all night, not to mention a few 'wee drops'.

ON SATURDAY 26TH THEY SAID FAREWELL TO BEAUTIFUL DUNDEE BEACH, AFTER TAKING A MUCH NEEDED COFFEE POT TO THE BOYS NEXT DOOR. NATURALLY PADDY'S FOOT FELT BETTER MINUS THE HOOK. THEY RECEIVED A TEXT NEXT DAY SAYING THE BOYS TOOK HIM TO THE DOCTOR FOR A TETANUS INJECTION, AND THANKING THEM FOR THE CARE . FOUR SOLID YOUNG MEN WHO MADE THEIR STAY MORE MEMORABLE. ROB WAS IN THE PROCESS OF MOVING A HOUSE FROM DARWIN TO ONE OF HIS BLOCKS. YET ANOTHER VERY MEMORABLE AND CHARMING CHARACTER. |
